Title: Place to Belong
Author: Claire Boston
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Sean Flanagan has spent a lifetime alone and rejected, constantly hiding who he really is.
With a father who deserted him and a mother who despised him, Sean didn’t think things could get much worse … until he was kicked out of home for being gay. Now he’s discovered he has three half-sisters on the other side of the world. This might be his last chance to find people who will love and accept him. But he’s terrified that if they find out who he really is then they’ll reject him like the rest of his family.
Sean arrives in Houston and is stunned by the warm welcome he receives from his sisters. He begins to hope that maybe this time things will be different. That’s when he meets Hayden Johnson. To follow his heart means risking everything with his newfound family.
Hayden is tired of endless dating. He’s looking for a man to love, someone to spend the rest of his life with. His boss’s new brother ticks all the boxes on the attraction scale, but there’s just one problem – he’s not gay.
Will Sean let his fears rule him, or will he let in the chance of love and find a place where he belongs?
The dining table was huge and there had to be over a dozen people sitting at it. Sean scanned the faces, noting most of them were Hispanic teenaged girls. They must be the foster sisters. Then his eyes met familiar brown ones which were looking at him with compassion. His stomach jolted. Hayden.
What the hell was he doing here?
Carmen made the introductions and he barely heard the names as he fought to ignore Hayden’s presence.
“Why don’t you sit next to Hayden?” Carly said.
Sean forced a smile and nodded. “Great.” His arm brushed Hayden’s as he sat and there was that electric zap again. The man was far too sexy for his own good, but Sean couldn’t deal with him right now. Not when his emotions were already reeling from this roller-coaster ride he was on.
“You’re in for a treat,” Hayden said quietly. “Carmen’s gone all out today because she wasn’t sure what you’d like.”
There were myriad dishes on the table. “She did this for me?”
“She wants to make a good impression.”
Sean frowned. How did Hayden know? “Do you come over a lot?”
“Carmen and I became friends after Carly and Evan got engaged. We’ve been planning the weddings together.”
“All of them?”
“Absolutely. I was researching everything for Carly, so Bridget and Zita decided to use the information as well.”
“Isn’t that a bit outside your job description?”
Hayden’s eyes narrowed. “Carly’s not paying me to do it. I’m doing it for fun.” He brightened. “I love weddings.”
He was so enthusiastic it was hard not to smile at him.
“What about you?” Hayden asked. “Do you like weddings?”
“Carly’s will be the first I’ve been to,” Sean admitted.
“Really?” His disbelief was clear.
Sean nodded, not letting his normal defensiveness take hold. He didn’t need to explain he had no close friends. It was none of Hayden’s business.
He bowed his head as they said grace, and then Bridget passed him a plate of pasteles and he turned away from Hayden and began dishing up.
