PERFECT MATCH by AG Meiers Blog Tour

About Perfect Match
Secrets can derail even the most powerful attraction.
Logger Sven Larson has never found a man worth publicly coming out of the closet for. But his family has other plans. As a thirtieth birthday gift, his mother hires the online dating service Perfect Match to find Sven the love of his life. To say Sven isn't thrilled is an understatement, but it's too late to cancel, and Jayden Calver arrives.
Perfect Match's success rate is unsurpassed, but they don't come by it honestly: if a client can't be matched, the agency uses a stand-in to fulfil their guarantee and protect their profit.
Tough luck has left Jayden in debt, and playing Perfect Match's deceptive game is his only option. So he travels — sparkling toenails and all — to a remote camp deep in the mountains to meet Sven Larson and pretend to be his perfect match for a few days.
Sparks fly on first contact. But as the two men get closer, Sven grows more and more suspicious of Jayden, and Jayden struggles with guilt over his deceit. They both want a future together, but first they must find the courage to be honest with themselves and each other.

What was most difficult about writing and publishing your book?

My life is busy. I have a day job that I like and a family with two very active kids. So, the biggest challenge for writing is always finding the time to get the words down, but luckily I’m married to a pretty awesome guy who is super supportive. I started out writing just for myself and put on paper whatever came to mind: Short-stories, random scenes and a whole bunch of first chapters that never went any further. Only in the last two years, have I seriously looked into publishing.
I enjoy dropping my characters into tough situations. The “Meet Cute” is never my problem. I have tons of ideas how future lovers could meet and tons of scenarios that make it almost impossible for them to find their happy end. Perfect Match is a great example. There is just no way Sven and Jayden should end up together. Sven Larson is a logger and lives in a remote mountain camp in British Columbia. Jayden Calver—a true city kid—is in financial trouble and tangled up in a fake match making agency. His first mark: Sven. From the start, secrets and lies threaten to derail their instant attraction.
I love to write conflict, challenges, big mistakes, and fights. Love can conquer it all. Ugh…but once it’s conquered and I have to write the mushy stuff at the end, I’m seriously struggling. I think Caz, my editor at Riptide, was seriously considering ditching me there at the end after we wasted a whole day going back and forth on the very last sentence of the story. In general, publishing has taught me patience. Editing was a long drawn out process, but honestly, I think that readers deserve the attention to detail and focus on getting it right.
When I started on this journey, I was really pretty relaxed. I still remember hitting send on my first submission thinking “Here goes nothing” with a giddy smile. I hope that the readers can feel the lightheartedness of writing Perfect Match mostly for myself. Back then, I didn’t worry too much about the reception. Now, it seems like the stakes get higher with every step forward and I sometimes have to remind myself to enjoy every moment along the way.

Follow up question: Do you have any advice for unpublished authors?
Not really…at least not yet. It’s still all very new to me and at times I’m positively dazed by the fact that my book is published. It’s way too early for me to think I have any advice to offer. Well, actually, there is one thing I’m telling myself a lot these days: Be confident. If you love your book, then there will be readers out there that will enjoy it, too. And always remember that rejections are part of the process. Fear of a few “no’s” shouldn’t stop you. Just be confident that you can overcome obstacles.
