Daring Fate by Megan Erickson Review

We all have tragic backstories in today's world.

I wake up chained to the wall of a dark cell aware of two things: I failed my sister, and I smell my enemy.

When I’m taken to meet Dare, the alpha of the Silver Tip pack, I’m sure I’m about to lose my throat. The last thing I expect is for the Alpha to recognize me as his fated mate. No way is he going to let me go now, and I still have to find a way to rescue my sister.

As I plot my escape to save her, I find that if I leave, Dare could be killed by power-hungry members of his pack. And now he’s more to me than my fated mate—my heart is involved. With time ticking by on my sister’s life, I have to make a choice I never thought I’d face—my sister’s life or my mate’s? That’s if I can survive the undead shifters intent on killing me first...

Review

Daring Fate (Silver Tip Pack #1)

This story is a mix of paranormal, dystopian and erotic romance. A disease has killed off all pure humans. Two groups, Weres and werewolves, weren’t eradicated, but some became zombies that eat and infect others so the current world is all about pack survival. Some packs have great alphas and others not so much.
To Dare the most important thing is his family. His brother and sister are all he has left. They’ve not had good experiences in this post-apocalyptic world. He stumbles upon another pack and turns out he’s their leader’s mate. Dare has to figure out this rare experience and who to trust. His loved ones’ lives depend on it.
This book is full of sexy M/M scenes. It’s super alpha and delicious, and it’s really great with the sweetest too. I’m a big zompoc fan so I would have liked more on the Noweres, but Daring Fate is definitely worth reading.

The Whispers by Daryl Banner Review

This book can be read as a standalone. Although reading the Beautiful Dead Trilogy would enrich your experience, it is not required.

Synopsis: Jennifer needs to know the truth about the Beautiful Dead. Do they really exist, or is it all a lie?

She faces punishment from the university if she pursues her forbidden Undeadly studies - but she could also change the world. One reckless decision (that may or may not be totally illegal) sends Jennifer and her friends embarking on an adventure of adeathtime to find the truth at last.

She did not expect, however, to discover the fate of all humanity resting in her little Living hands.

Daryl Banner is a writer and composer who graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Theatre and Psychology.

He does not write in any single genre, as his stories tend to span several. He is most inspired by the smart and unlikely hero, but urges you (the reader) not to fall in love with them; they may deceive you with their innocence. He is thrilled by putting his characters in terrible situations where they must face choices and challenges that seem impossible to overcome.
Daryl Banner writes science fiction / urban fantasy, M/M romance, and post-apocalyptic fantasy. He cannot wait to hear what you think about his stories and welcomes (and responds to!) all feedback.

Interesting tidbits: Daryl is also an obsessive piano player, video game enthusiast, and occasional actor. He's been remixing video game music for over fifteen years, and is a passionate Final Fantasy fan. REVIEW

The Whispers (A new BEAUTIFUL DEAD Adventure) (The Beautiful Dead, #4)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am in love with this world the author has created. I like zompoc books, but he takes everything in a completely unique direction. As stated in the blurb, you don't have to read The Beautiful Dead trilogy in order to understand and like The Whispers, but if you have read it, you will gain more from and love this new story. There are so many bits with significance. They’re like easter eggs for BD fans.

As usual, I never knew what would happen next in the beautiful dead world. I'm so excited for this new adventure. I have these ideas and questions. Some of the characters are changed so much, and yet, they feel the same. Some characters are complete 180's from when we first met them.

I just finished reading this so my mind is still reeling. I definitely need some digestion time and a reread. Every page is filled with important information.
I absolutely recommend The Whispers.

SPECIMEN by Shay Savage Blog Tour Review

SPECIMEN BOOK TOUR.jpg

SPECIMEN IT'S LIVE.jpg
A soldier, a doctor, and a stark white laboratory full of lies.
Specimen by Shay Savage is NOW LIVE on AMAZON!

Blurb
I awaken in a laboratory.
I don’t know who I am.
I’m inexplicably drawn to the doctor who cares for me.  She tells me I’ve been altered, that I’m stronger and faster, that I’ll be a key component in a war between corporations.  She says I volunteered for this.  She says I volunteered to be transformed, but I have no way of knowing if what she says is true.
Something isn’t right.  My memories have been taken, wiped clean, but dreams begin to slip into my conscious mind.  I can’t let anyone know when that happens, or they’ll remove my memories again.  Somewhere inside of me, I know I need to remember something important.
I’m fighting a war I don’t understand, and the one woman I rely on can’t be trusted.

Excerpt
“That’s why I can’t stop thinking about fucking you.”
Her eyes widen, and she quickly looks away from me.  She stands and starts to pull her hand away, but I push myself off the bed and grasp her arm before she can go anywhere.  Our bodies touch, and I reach one arm around her back and pull her tightly against me.
I cup her face with my hand and run my thumb across her lips.  Her scent is all over me now, and I want to experience her with my tongue.  Would her taste resemble her scent or complement it?  I have to know.
Pulling her closer, I press my open mouth to hers.  Her body stills, and she grips my shoulder with one hand as the other presses against my chest.  Her mouth is warm.  I can feel her breath as my tongue slides inside.  Her taste is indefinable, smooth like sweet liquor I can’t recall ever tasting.
There is a shift inside of her.  It can’t be seen or heard, but I can smell it and taste it.  The smell of her skin becomes darker, thicker.  I feel her flex her fingers on my shoulder as she tilts her head to allow me to deepen the kiss.
How would her scent change if I were inside of her?  What sounds would she make when she comes?  Would she muffle her cries or be loud enough for all those watching us to hear?  How would it feel to come inside of her?  What sounds would I make?
I don’t even know if I’m a virgin.
Reaching behind her, I shove whatever is on the side table to the floor, lift Riley up, and set her down on the edge.  I grip her hips and pull her against my stomach.  The table is too high.  I can’t fuck her from this angle.  I break the kiss, lift her effortlessly, turn, and drop her ass to the edge of the bed.
“Sten, stop!”
I freeze my actions.  My entire body tightens, and my dick throbs in my shorts.
It’s too much.  I need this.  I need her.
I don’t move.
“You have to let go of me.”
I squeeze my eyes shut and withdraw my hands only enough to release her.  I keep them close enough to still feel the heat from her body and detect the shift of air when she moves.  She uses her hands to push herself backward on the bed, away from me.
The muscles in my legs shake.  I’m so wound up, and I can’t let it go.  The tension becomes painful and the need for release so prevalent, I can no longer think.  I grip the edge of the bed until my knuckles turn white.  As soon as she pulls her legs back and pushes herself off the edge of the bed, on the side opposite me, I grab the bed and throw it, smashing it into the mirror.
I glare at my reflection, and the strange dark eyes glare back at me.  The unfamiliar lips are curled up in a snarl, and the unkempt beard creates a frightening image.  Everything about the man looking back at me is alien.
Didn’t I just shave last night?

REVIEW

Specimen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

At some point in the future, a comet passed by Earth too closely, which devastated the ecosystem. Crops failed. Water became scarce. Companies fought for control. Two sides emerged as leaders. Now there is a war between them for ultimate control. Specimen is about a super soldier, designed by one of the sides, and his handler.

The reader is constantly questioning. What is the truth? Who's good or bad? Is this part real? Everything is told from his POV. His memory has been swiped. He's a science experiment undergoing treatments and simulations. He's on testosterone and drug overload with side effects of fight or fuck always trying to break through. His doctor is his trainer and lover. His whole world revolves around her, which makes everything a complicated struggle between brain, heart, hormone and environment.

This story was an adrenaline ride. I haven't come down yet. If you have been waiting for something different, this is for you. It feels a bit post-apocalyptic and dystopian but it's mostly sci-fi and erotic romance. You'll just have to read it and decide for yourself. ;) I found this pic and consider it a perfect message from the author.
