Successful financial analyst Michael Walsh leads a picture-perfect life that anyone would envy—unless they caught a glimpse beneath the surface. Haunted by failed relationships and self-doubt, Michael harbors a soul-deep loneliness that no number of casual hookups can fulfill. So why can’t he stop thinking about his New Year’s fling with a man whose quiet desperation matches his own? Barista Stewart Jenkins has an abysmal track record with relationships, and no matter how hard he tries to keep things tightly under wraps, his life is spinning out of control. His hookup with the gorgeous Michael was only supposed to be sex—hot, dirty, and uncomplicated—but that small taste leaves him desperate for more. Every no-strings encounter that follows between Michael and Stewart peels away more layers, blurring the lines between them, until they’re left with a raw tenderness and acceptance they’re both urgently craving. A relationship absolutely wouldn’t work on paper; they come from drastically different lives and are plagued by inexcusable sins. All that vulnerability is sure to reveal old wounds, and forgiveness seems so far out of reach unless they can find a way around their fears on the road to redemption.

Man comforting his upset boyfriend by kissing him on the head

“Ah, hell, that’s good,” I gasped as he stroked upward while simultaneously sucking on my neck. I probably should’ve protested because he was sure to leave a bruise, but I couldn’t find it in me to care. Besides, it would be a marker of this night. Like a sexy brand. His breaths grew heavier, and his chest rumbled in deep pleasure as he jerked sloppily against me. His hand stayed firm and tight on my cock even as he drew back and shuddered out his release. The sound was so sensual that my orgasm slammed through me at nearly the same time. “Holy fuck.” My body grew limp as my come spilled over his hand and onto the floor. I shut my eyes and kept my head anchored against the wall as he released his grip and my shaft pulsed in response. The quiet in the room grew deafening—the only sound our breaths and the muted noises of the crowd outside the door. “You got a name?” I didn’t know why I said it out loud. It was only a fleeting thought through my mottled brain. “Why the fuck does it matter?” he replied as the sound of his zipper cut through the echoing silence. “Not like I’ll ever see you again.” “Dunno.” My cheeks flushed red, so I kept my head buried in my arm. “Maybe when I yank on my cock later, replaying this scene in my head, I can call you something.” He didn’t respond. I heard him straightening his clothes and then pulling a few paper towels, which he forced into my hand. “Michael,” he mumbled against my ear. And then he was gone.

DEMON ON THE DOWN-LOW by E.J. Russell Blog Tour

Hello, everyone, and thank you for joining me on blog tour for Demon on the Down-Low, the third (and final) book in the Supernatural Selection trilogy! Follow along with the tour and comment for a chance to win the tour grand prize, a $25 Riptide gift card and your choice of either Single White Incubus or Bad Boy’s Bard. Winner chosen randomly at the end of the tour from comments across all tour stops.

About Demon on the Down-Low
After decades of unrequited love, this kangaroo will jump at the chance for a date. Any date.
Lovelorn kangaroo shifter Hamish Mulherne, drummer for the mega-hit rock band Hunter’s Moon, waited years for the band’s jaguar shifter bassist to notice him. Instead, she’s just gotten married and is in a thriving poly relationship. How is Hamish supposed to compete with that? But with everyone else in the band mated and revoltingly happy, he needs somebody. Since he can’t expect true love to strike twice, he signs up with Supernatural Selection. Because what the hell.
When Zeke Oz was placed at Supernatural Selection through the Sheol work-release program, he thought he was the luckiest demon alive. But when he seems responsible for several massive matchmaking errors, he’s put on notice: find the perfect match for Hamish, or get booted back to Sheol for good. The only catch? He has to do it without the agency’s matchmaking spells, and Hamish simply will not engage.
But Zeke starts to believe that the reason all of Hamish’s dates fizzle is because nobody in the database is good enough for him. And Hamish realizes that his perfect match might be the cute demon who’s trying so hard to make him happy.

Whenever I introduce a new mythological figure into a story—which, let’s face it, is pretty much every paranormal book I’ve written so far—I like to do a some research on existing lore. Not that I absolutely adhere to that lore, but it gives me a jumping-off place, a springboard for twisting the myth to suit myself.
Sometimes, that springboard is the spark for the entire story. For instance, stumbling upon a story about a ghost war in Portland’s Forest Park (linked to a true story of the first man publicly hanged in Oregon after it became a state) turned into Stumptown Spirits. Poking around a Norse mythology website led me to an entry about Norns (the Norse equivalent of the Greek Fates), which evolved into Nudging Fate.
When I knew that I wanted to introduce a demon in the Supernatural Selection trilogy, I pointed Google at demons, and oh boy.
People have been writing about demons for centuries, frequently about the same ones. There’s a 1577 treatise called Pseudomonarchia Daemonum that lists sixty-nine specific demons. The Ars Goetia, part of the Lesser Key of Solomon (mid-seventeenth century) ups it to seventy-two (dropped one, added four new ones). Collin de Plancy’s Dictionnaire Infernal (1818) drops the count down again, and the list isn’t identical, but it has pictures. Well, illustrations.
The demons have a hierarchy, mostly like a peerage: kings, dukes, princes, marquesses, counts. However, some are called presidents, so apparently they’ve got a little democratic uprising in there too.
These tomes present a number of interesting things about each demon: what they’re good at, who they govern (if anybody), what they look like, their jobs in the demon realm—and this stuff is weirdly specific (and specifically weird.)
Take Adramelech, for instance. According to de Plancy, this dude is a high chancellor of hell who tends to Satan’s wardrobe.
That’s right. There’s a valet demon.
Volac is a high president (I guess there are low presidents too?) who commands thirty legions. But if you could break into his busy legion-commanding schedule, he could tell you the position of the planets and where to find serpents—which is a thing anyone might need to know.
Halphas, a great earl, nearly caused me to do a spit-take. He apparently appears in the form of a stock dove, but when I was skimming the web page, my brain morphed that into “appears in the form of a sock puppet”—which, you gotta admit, would be interesting. (Sock puppets have always seemed a tad sinister to me.)
Ukobach is a demon “of an inferior order” who maintains the oil in the infernal boilers. This guy gave me two things that were critical to Demon on the Down-Low. First: the demon realm has furnaces? Second: not all demons are kings, dukes, presidents, and the like. They need somebody to do the actual work.
While I mention Adramelech in passing, I borrowed five demons from the list and gave them larger parts. I won’t tell you who all of them are (I don’t want to spoil the surprise. :-)), but one who plays a fairly large part and appears early in the story is Melchom.
According to the Dictionnaire Infernal, once you get past the Biblical stuff, Melchom is the paymaster of servants in hell: “he who carries the purse.”
Here’s his picture:

He just looks so . . . nonchalant. And rather dapper, despite the furry ears and the sneer. I mean, check out those fancy slippers.
How could I resist using this guy? I put him in the story as Zeke’s supervisor, although I *ahem* took liberties with him, as I always do.
I’ll leave you with one more: Sallos/Zaebos, a grand count, “sweet of temper.” (That’s right, a sweet demon, so Zeke isn’t the only one!) He appears as a good soldier with a ducal crown on his head—because apparently that’s the right sort of head cover in the demon armies? Oh, and he rides a crocodile.
Because why the hell not?

EVERMORE by Corinne Michaels Release Day Launch

From New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels, comes EVERMORE, a new novella in her Salvation Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Corinne Michaels comes a new story in her Salvation series…

I was poised to become partner at my law firm even before I became secretly engaged to my boss. After being humiliated by him on my wedding day, I can’t face working for him any longer. So I quit, waving my middle finger on my way out.

Now the only things I’m poised for are unemployment and loneliness.

When an opportunity with Cole Security arises, it seems like the perfect way to run, all the way to Virginia Beach. I wasn’t expecting my childhood sweetheart to be there. I definitely wasn’t prepared that when we saw each other again, Benjamin Pryce would be so grown-up. So gorgeous. So Navy SEAL-ish.

And still the same guy who broke my heart when I was fifteen–and could do it again.

They say if you’re fooled once, shame on them. The second time, it’s on you. The third time, it’s going to be me that runs… unless he can convince me to stay forevermore.

“What do you mean you’re not coming?” I scream into the receiver at my what-should-be husband. “I can’t marry you,” Harold tells me. My eyes fill with angry tears. “You decided this now?” I shriek. It’s my wedding day. Well, it was supposed to be. Harold—which is the worst name in existence when you’re in the throes of passion—apparently has decided it won’t be. An hour late, I might add. I’m here, at the church, in my nine-thousand-dollar wedding dress that I saved for. Without a groom. I’m going to kill him. My voice drops eerily soft. “Whatever the hell the issue is, we can deal with it tomorrow, Harold. You can’t do this to me. You get your ass to this church and you marry me.” He sighs. “I can’t do it. I can’t, Gretchen. I had an epiphany last night.” An epiphany? How rich. “Was it that you’re a dickhead who was going to destroy the woman who stood by you the last seven-fucking-years?” “I’m saving you.” Now I’ve heard it all. “Saving me, my ass!” I scream. “You will not do this to me. You won’t make me a jilted bride! I won’t let you.” My two best friends, Catherine and Ashton, share a look as they stand in their rose gold colored bridesmaids dresses. Harold goes silent and then I hear someone in the back. “It’s for the better. We never should’ve done this. You’re my associate at the firm and if we do this, it will destroy both of our careers.” A tear falls down. I’m so angry. I’m so betrayed by him. Seven years we’ve been sneaking around. I was his “Secret Slut” as I called myself. At first it was exciting. The sneaking around, late-night office romps, the little touches we’d share knowing that later we wouldn’t have to slow down. Then it became impossible. I wanted to go to him when a case went bad, but I couldn’t because he was my boss. Gossip in the office became much more than harmless chatter, so we pulled back even more. Finally, two months ago, he’d had enough of me complaining and threatening to end things. He proposed and said he wanted to marry me immediately. That if we were married, I could take equal part in the firm and finally stop having to hide our relationship. My chest rises and falls because now, there’s no going back. People know. People are here to witness this, and now I’ll be the “left-at-the-alter lawyer.”

Corinne Michaels is the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author of The Salvation Series (Beloved, Beholden, Consolation, Conviction & Defenseless), Say You’ll Stay, Say You Want Me, and Say I’m Yours. She’s an emotional, witty, sarcastic, and fun loving mom of two beautiful children. Corinne is happily married to the man of her dreams and is a former Navy wife. After spending months away from her husband while he was deployed, reading and writing was her escape from the loneliness. Both her maternal and paternal grandmothers were librarians, which only intensified her love of reading. After years of writing short stories, she couldn’t ignore the call to finish her debut novel, Beloved. Her alpha heroes are broken, beautiful, and will steal your heart.
