Synopsis
Raine Quinn was a huge disappointment to her haters. She wasn’t supposed to make it out of Waco, TX. She wasn't supposed to land even one acting job. And she sure as hell wasn't supposed to fall in love with her best friend. Will Callahan liked to call himself the younger, hotter Shatner, minus the ham acting and distracting toupee. He loved everything comics, he loved playing the hero of the beloved, defunct space western, AURA and he loved his best damn friend, Raine Quinn. Raine and Will shot up the Hollyweird ranks together. They became stars, Geek legends and over the years, family. But one night, with the meddling of their dearly departed friend, too many shots and too much time reminiscing, Raine and Will cross a line...and it’s one they can’t jump back over.

Excerpt
Will had the fattest bottom lip, the softest, pinkest skin that darkened in the center. I stared at that small discoloration, trying to ignore the memory of how his mouth tasted on my tongue all those months ago as he dropped my hair and slid an arm behind my head on the truck seat. He came so close now that the fine hairs on his arm tickled against my ear. “You aren’t just anyone.” Will touched my face and I let him maneuver my head, urge me to move my chin, angle my cheeks between his long fingers before he delivered his line. “There’s no one like you.” There were two small seconds before the kiss came. I counted them both and it felt like everything was happening in slow motion. The soft tickle of his fingertips against my jaw. The slow, sweet breath that fanned against my open mouth when he inched closer. The low, wild sound of his throat vibrating when he finally kissed me. It was an act. I knew that. There were fifty people around us watching, filming, lighting the set, assuring that the sound was optimal. But just then as Will kissed me…well, as Tristan kissed Isolde…I pretended that we were alone, that we were back in my house, drunk and blissfully un-mindful of how epically stupid it was to sleep with your best friend. Just then, I let Will move his mouth over mine and thought about the sweetness of his breath and how warm, how strong his tongue felt in my mouth. We went on kissing, reacting, setting up the steps that would lead to the rest of the scene. And I forgot about the script and the audience. I kissed Will back and let that chemistry Coop had mentioned the night before spill out from my body and shoot into Will’s. I moved when he pulled on me. I reacted when he subconsciously asked for a response. He led, I followed and in the progression of the scene, Tristan drew Isolde onto his lap, tugging at her shirt, slipping fingers up her back, pulling on the collar to expose her bare shoulder. And then, his hand came to my breast, those long, perfect fingers gripping, tweaking until I could not help myself. Until I threaded my fingers into his hair and let Will squeeze and touch and take whatever of mine he wanted. “God…” I managed, holding his mouth to my neck, moving up and over his lap, pressing him closer, harder against my skin. “Oh God.” “Baby…” I’d never heard that pet name from Will. He’d never referred to anyone he was with as his baby. He’d only ever called me Rainey or Pinkie or sweetie and none of those times had those pet names held any of the sweetness or need that he’d just used to call me that. No. Not me. Not Will. Tristan and Isolde. Not us. He kept kissing me, taking and I let him go on, cursing myself, my stupid logic when I heard Cooper repeat over and over again, “Guys, that’s a cut. Cut!” Will followed, leaned toward me, seeming unwilling to stop kissing me when I pulled away, shaking my head to clear away the tension tightening my body. When I looked over to Cooper and JoJo on the other side of the camera, Will finally stopped trying to kiss me. “That was perfect,” Coop said, leaning back in his chair, not remotely ashamed at how wide he smiled at us. “That was just…perfect.” I only vaguely heard him and decided that grin would pull me out of the moment so I focused on Will, how he rested his hands on my hips, how he hadn’t removed them even though Cooper had cut the scene. “It was good,” I told him, lacking anything remotely sensible to say. I didn’t move, loved too much how close we were, not willing to separate from Will. I had gone months and months not speaking to him and though I knew I needed to retract my limbs from his lap, that I had to keep myself distant so I could begin to stop wanting him, it felt too good to have him so close. I didn’t want to move. “Yeah,” he said, voice sounding awed. “Damn good.” My mind did things to me when Will was around. There were moments that I was certain he’d gone on looking at me too long, that there was something in that look that meant more than honest friendship, but I’d always managed to remind myself that I was not his type. I was his friend and that’s all I’d ever be, that drunken stupid night notwithstanding. But just then, with Will clinging to me still, with our bodies pleasantly entwined, I could have sworn the look he gave me, that amazed, satisfied expression wasn’t a figment of my desperate imagination. “Rainey.” It was a breathless sound that didn’t sound like my name at all. Those soft, slow syllables that made my name sound like a song had come from my best friend. It sounded like a promise. It felt like a dream and when I looked up at him, when he touched my cheek, made to guide my head again, bring my mouth closer to his despite there being no running camera filming it, I was sure Will Callahan, not Tristan was about to kiss me. And then, while the crew reset and ignored us, just as Will was tugging me closer and the moment was amping up, the tension doubling as I held my breath, waiting to see what he’d ask of me next, Will suddenly froze and let out a soundless gasp, as though someone had just flicked a switch on in his head. For several long seconds he just sat there, his mouth hanging open, his eyes searching my face but not really seeing me. Then, just as suddenly, he dropped his hand, unceremoniously moved me off his lap and hurriedly left the truck without so much as a backward glance in my direction.

I've Seen You Naked and Didn't Laugh: A Geeky Love StoryI've Seen You Naked and Didn't Laugh: A Geeky Love Story by Eden Butler

Rain is a great person. She’s easy to like, definitely the type of friend I’d love to have. She’s an actress that didn’t change after becoming famous. Everyone adores her. This sometimes leads to jealousy and misunderstandings among her circle of friends. Occasionally, it inspires another’s catty behavior.
This is a friends-to-lovers story about two people who just have to figure things out. It’s heavy with platonic friendship also. There are several sad and sweet moments. The connections are true to real life. If you’re into comic-con-ish things and fandoms, you’ll appreciate the leads in this story even more. My inner geek loved following the little details.

Shadows & Lies by Eden Butler Blog Tour Review

Title: Shadows & Lies (Shadows, #1)
Author: Eden Butler
Genre: Romantic Suspense | Mystery
Release Date: March 26, 2015

Synopsis

One lie can change your life.

A web of lies can destroy it.

Neil Ryan was a good Navy SEAL. He was an even better detective, but when an unmarked envelope lands on his desk, long-buried secrets are resurrected and Ryan questions everything he thought he knew about justice, including who killed his mother.

Alex Black is a distraction Ryan doesn’t need—she’s loud, obnoxious and a common thief, but her eyes are haunting, her lips irresistible and Ryan happens to love her filthy mouth.

Alex is also the only one able to help Ryan find the leads he's missing. She's the only one who can lead him to the one person who has the answers he seeks, but following her could cost Ryan everything.

Secrets get told, lives get wrecked and in every shadow, the truth is hiding.

“I’ve never seen you cruel before. Didn’t know you had it in you, Boy Scout.”

“You know, lady,” there was a hum in my voice I didn’t recognize. Alex had put it there with just the low dip of her gaze, “you got all these ideas that you know me. You don’t.”

“Ditto.”

Her eyes moved with the shake of my head, following the slow nod, the moment becoming something tactile, obvious as the heating air between our bodies that dampened our skin. Two looks, two held breaths and something had shifted. Hell, who was I kidding? It had started, brewing, way back, the second I grabbed her arm, stopping her from taking that wallet. It simmered when she snuck onto my balcony asking for my help. Now it crackled—that attraction, the symmetry in the breath that mingled between her mouth and mine.

“Alex?” It was only her name falling from my mouth that moved her gaze off my lips, a small glance that was all the answer she’d give me. “I’m not a fucking Boy Scout.”

There are times when you can’t think. Those are the clustered moments when the energy, the zing of the moment you’re in breaks apart any awareness you have. There is no logic in the swell of sensation or the liquid heat that drives one body closer to another. It’s the feel of warmth, the hope of touch that pulls you in no matter what your brain tries to make you understand about right and wrong, friend or foe. I wasn’t supposed to touch Alex Black. I wasn’t supposed to see her as anything but a mission. I was supposed to find her stalker and keep her safe.

But I had always done what was expected. Seems she had to, as well. The difference was that my expectations fell on the side of justice. Hers ran along the tracks of corruption. Both meant we survived however we could.

I didn’t think about the case or what had brought her to me in the first place, and what kept her coming back to me. I reached for her because I knew that’s what we both wanted. I touched her because she let me and once I had her against my chest, felt the smooth brush of her fingers on my neck, sensation shattered judgment.

The last sound I heard before I kissed her was the strangle of laughter falling into a moan. Hers, not mine. Alex was a woman—beautiful, sensual, parts that went in and out just like they’re supposed to, but she did not kiss me like any other hesitant, docile woman I’d ever touched.

She touched me like she was still hungry, like the meal we had just shared had not filled her. Like nothing would.

REVIEW

Shadows and Lies (Shadows, #1)

Shadows & Lies is different from a lot of the romances that I read because it's more of action/mystery. Instead of the thrill of the chase of the opposite sex, the leads are looking to solve cold case murders connected to them.

Ryan is an ex SEAL and ex cop. Now he works for a security company with his friends who are also ex military. He has been searching for clues to his mother's death for years. His one connection was a jewelry box which was stolen. Alex grew up hard as an orphan. She knows all the scamming tricks. Years back, she stole the jewelry box from Ryan. Now they come across each other's paths again. They both need the other's help whether willing to admit it or not. The more they talk, the more they begin to recognize the many links between them. They also realize that they cannot fight the attraction they feel.

I would like to have seen the author take the story further into suspense. Even though, it is more this direction than romance, it still feels a little too safe, and things work out quite easily. In the beginning, the clues come slowly without certainty of where it's going, and near the end, it has more action with outcome and no lead in.

I like both leads. He seems like a great guy, sweet & sexy. She a very tough girl, always depending on herself only. It's a cool twist seeing Alex not play the damsel in distress throughout. Also, I like how kind and concerned Ryan is.

From the ending, it's definite there will be more to come with these characters and his teammates. I enjoyed reading this book, and I'm intrigued to find out who is the mastermind.

REVIEW
Night Shift: Dirty Things Happen in the DarkNight Shift: Dirty Things Happen in the Dark by Kindle Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This anthology is for charity so I recommend everyone pick it up for that reason alone, but also, these stories are so different, there is something here for everyone. I read them all and ordered by which I personally liked best.

Off Duty by Sawyer Bennett is about a white girl who fell in love with a black boy in high school. Because of her family's prejudice, the relationship ended. Now she is a doctor and living hundreds of miles away from everyone she knew back then including her family. This is a sexy little second chance at love story, but what really got to me was the father/daughter moments. ♡ I had some tears.
"My greatest pride is in that you taught me something very important."
#LoveIsLove

♂♂Closet Confessions by Kindle Alexander is about a gay couple. One is out and the other can't seem to take that step. There's a bit of mystery and cat & mouse play involved. Also it contains sweeness and longing. I really got a kick out of the eccentric aunt and the overly friendly nurses. It seemed like a lovely work environment. And of course the hook up scene was hot (speaking of closets), and the characters were sweet (in true Kindle fashion). I enjoyed this novella a lot and can't wait for next book.

Swimming in Shadows by Eden Butler is about a man on a mission. It's a bit mysterious and full of action. He's following leads to try to recover an item that belonged to his dead mother and may have clues as to her murder. So much happens in this short read. One thing leads him back to a girl from his past. This novella really intrigued my interested. I'm looking forward to the upcoming book.
There is poetry in naked flesh.

Healing Touch by Brenda Rothert is about a doctor who has to work with her ex husband (also a doctor) and the woman he left her for (a nurse). Although she could be bitter, she isn't. She just tries to dodge the couple. She has a huge project going to occupy her time. At the last minute there is a malfunction that needs mechanical attention. This leads to the head of that department and the doctor spending time alone working with and getting to know each other. This is a good read for those looking for mature, likable, sexy characters.

Rebound by Chelle Bliss is about an FBI agent who is running away from heartache. He meets a local chick who gives him some personal touring (and sex). Being around this girl makes everything feel better. Can a new girl and a new location be enough to get him over this slump in life? For those who have been reading this series, I'm sure it's a must.

Wanting to Forget by Toni Aleo is about a hockey player who has fallen for his best friend's sister. She's a good girl. He sees himself as bad news. Also he's out for an injury currently so he may be even more down on himself because of that. In order to try to rid his mind of this girl and change his mood, he goes to NOLA for some full on debauchery. He parties where the girls and alcohol flow like water, but can this really make him happy? This novella is part of a much bigger story.
