Lies And Truth ( book 1) by Elaine May

Lies And Truth (Book 1)
by
Elaine May

When Isla Holmes life as a child is turned upside down and she is ripped away from her soul mate she is forced to live a life with evil.
When Isla and her soul mate cross paths will they find a happy ever after or will evil intervene?

Elaine May is an American film director, screenwriter and actress. She achieved her greatest fame in the 1950s from her improvisational comedy routines in partnership with Mike Nichols.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This story has dark elements and a mysterious feel to it. The beginning has a series of flashbacks in a dream sequence showing the reader clues of the past and planting the seeds for what comes ahead. Also, the story goes straight into her being sexually abused. She has basically been living the life of a tortured sex slave for several years.

For me, the storyline did not really draw my interest until a 3rd of the way in. Despite her treatment, Isla has been brainwashed by the ones controlling her to see things a certain way. These things start to unravel. Clues are continuously coming to surface.

I don't know if it was me or the story, but I did not feel as connected to Isla's character as I would like to have. I also felt the love interest was missing something. The biggest emotional connection I had was how much I hated the bad guys—A Lot. I do think the story got steadily better as it went along. This isn't a single so all the answers haven't been given yet. The mystery part is excellent because I still cannot understand what the play the bad guys are trying to run is.

My Thoughts

The Prisoner: Broken Series Complete CollectionThe Prisoner: Broken Series Complete Collection by Kol Anderson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, this collection just completely floored me. If you want something really dark in the m/m genre, this is it. I could not put it down. The rape and torture in it are horrendous. The internal monologues helped me to get through it. Book one was pretty exciting. Book two tried to kill me. Book three tried to mind-fuck me. I was surprised by the way some things went. But I must say that I was not shocked by that ending. I knew something was up. Even though some parts went a great way toward traumatizing me, I can't wait to move on to the next book. The author is a miracle worker in my opinion to be able to write scenes like the ones in this book, some disgusting and some hot. I never knew what was going to happen this time, each time.

*If you can't handle drug usage, graphic violence, forced sex, brutal torment, you will definitely not want to read this book.

Review

Once BrokenOnce Broken by Kol Anderson

This cover model is gorgeous. I just had to say that.

The Broken Series is a mix genre of BDSM, horror, drama and erotica. This being the fourth book in the serial, I'm starting to put more and more together, but nah not really. Still pretty much getting my mind blown. This particular installment didn't contain enough breakage to destroy my previously damage psyche. It kind of fell in the median of darkness when compared to the rest of the books.

The main focus of this episode is Carter. He is more of an innocent than Aaron was.
Now the boy was on the bed, his hands bound in front on him with plastic ties, gagged, and blindfolded.
Carter is smart though. He adapts well, and may even have a previously unknown kinky side.

Aaron and Vincent pop up a bit, as well as some of the other characters. The ending is a great one. I'm wondering what's next for both Aaron and Carter.

The Escape by Shoshanna Evers Review

The Escape, Book 2 in the Pulse Trilogy

In Book Two of the erotic dystopian Pulse Trilogy, Jenna escapes New York City only to be tracked down by a soldier who might be her only hope of survival.
Jenna doesn’t know if she believes what Emily and Mason told her—that America is rebuilding and a better life awaits her outside of Manhattan. But with the power grid down and no connection to the outside world, Jenna will die if she stays at Grand Central’s FEMA camp, selling her body to soldiers.
Private Ken Barker is sent to capture Jenna when she escapes—but Jenna knows he’s one of the good guys and tries to seduce him into joining her. Their passionate sex kindles something even stronger than lust between them, and when Barker goes back to Grand Central he sees the horrors there with new eyes.
Now it’s his turn to escape the city, and he knows he must take Jenna with him or she’ll die at the camp. On the road, they’ll start a new life together, hoping against hope that the electricity between them will prove more than just a spark—that together they might finally light up their dark nights.

The Thrust, Book 3 in the Pulse Trilogy

In the gritty conclusion to the erotic dystopian Pulse Trilogy, one couple undertakes a desperate rescue mission in post-apocalyptic New York City.
Trent Taylor and the people of Letliv, a thriving fishing community on the Connecticut coast, must join forces with the survivors of the FEMA camp at Grand Central to save his sister Annie, who is living on the Tracks as part of the soldiers’ private harem.
Clarissa has spent the past year under control of the soldiers, but Trent’s passionate touch sparks her desire. She’s not entirely sure if she’ll be safe with the mysterious stranger, who still mourns his wife’s untimely death. But with her growing need for Trent, and the danger the women of the Tracks face—Clarissa will have to gather everyone together to fight the rule of the soldiers who keep them prisoner. Could their struggle for freedom—and love—mean an escape from this dystopian nightmare?

**********
The Escape

This is a dystopian, almost apocalyptic series. An EMP has gone off shutting everything down in the US. Most of the population has died.

Book one was pretty good so I'm finally on to book two. Book one was about a couple escaping New York. Martial law is in effect, and the ones in charge are cruel and insane. Book two gives us glimpses into what that couple is doing now as well as other escapees and the camp from which they broke out.

I didn't like book two as much because I feel the story is becoming too broad maybe. By the end of book two, I felt like the third book would not be enough to finish all that was started in book two. The series arc feels like it's just going to get bigger instead of heading toward a conclusion. There may be too much going on for me to feel the connection I felt with book one.

I did like how the storyline makes you think about things you never would in our current world. All the things we would miss...like google search and socks. It brought up points that I never would have thought like how many foods do not have viable seeds in order to grow more because of genetic engineering.
"I'm thinking how strange it is, how perfectly normal people have become prostitutes, thieves, rapists, and murderers. How did that happen?"
I have no idea exactly which direction the storyline is going but it appears to be war.

If you're looking a end of the world type read that's erotic and occasionally dark themed (flashes of nonconsensual sex and torture), you should check this out.

Complementary Colors by Adrienne Wilder Review

Complementary Colors
by
Adrienne Wilder

My sister Julia manipulated my life into a prison to keep me silent about our dirty family secret. Her greed made me a slave and circumstance left me with no way to escape.

Trapped, the only way I could silence the nightmares driving me to insanity was to wrap them in color, hold them with shadow, and stitch them to negative space with line.

But no matter how bright the pigments, no one could see my confession.

Except for Roy Callahan.

I thought he was just another nameless one-night stand in a long line of many.
But I was wrong. Roy could see past the façade of my life and through the veil color over the canvas. He could see what the world couldn’t.

And with him I’d find the courage to tell the truth about the boy.

The boy who kissed me.
The boy who loved me.
The boy whose name I couldn’t remember.

Georgia born and bred, I am an artist, a writer, and a general pain in the ass.
I spend most of my days working on my next book or designing cover art for other writers. For stress relief I do olympic lifting and occasionally run (but hate it). I have been in love with writing since I was very young but it wasn't until recently that I decided to pursue it as a profession.

I have experimented in several genres and found that since I identify as male, male romance has been the most comfortable for me to write. I don't discriminate in my books. All characters are fair game. I do however, prefer a happy ending at some level.

I don't write the standard romance book. Some might even argue that what I write isn't romance at all. Personally I think of them as love stories, where even in a fantastical world, there are realistic outcomes to the obstacles the characters face.

Many of my books have dark turns and twists where the characters fight for the light at the end of the tunnel. I write action, fist fights, gun fights, down right dirty evil people who have to be stopped, things catch fire, blow up, and fall in. My characters come in a unique range. They are not all good guys, but the majority of them have very good hearts. Many of them have been through hell in their lives, and many of them have a laundry list of faults. But hopefully they manage to surprise you with their tenacity and loyalty.

If all goes well, there will be a myriad of different kinds of books available this year. If I am really lucky, you will enjoy them.

Amazing!
I love this book. It contains two elements of great interest to me: psychology and m/m relationship. I feel that both parts were so well developed that either could have carried the book by itself.

Mental health is one of my biggest fascinations. I am not a psychologist, but I have taken loads of classes on the subject. I believe the author is very accurate in her depiction of how a mind is broken and the after effects. All of the build-up, background and steps to overcome were completely gripping. I was full of emotions through it all. I just have to throw in that Julia is my most hated character of all time.

The connection between Roy and Paris is beautiful. The author does such a wonderful job of making them real. I love reading M/M, but often it just feels like it's written just for the sexy (much the same with a lot of M/F written these days). I actually felt the bond between them and loved the sex scenes because I sensed they were truthful. The lengths they were willing to go to protect or save the other made my heart swell. These guys are definitely one of my favorite couples. So much about Paris broke my heart. And Roy is so sweet. Where do I find my Roy?

I can't gush enough about how much I am enthralled by this story. This book is one of my top reads ever.
