Twisted Palace by Erin Watt

Twisted is a pretty good way to describe life for the characters in this series. The other two books were pretty dramatic like a soap opera. This installment is more like the daily life of a teen with something major hanging over everyone's heads and then a crazy finale.

TP is mostly Ella's story. For those who love the Royal men, like I do, you get glimpses of them of course. Through most of the storyline Ella is trying to find out who the killer is and handle having a father in the picture. There are romance, mystery, coming of age and revelation bits. Fans of the series should definitely see how it all ends.

Lisa likes to tell stories, mostly with hot guys and happily ever afters.

Lisa lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn't know why, because she hates the heat, but she suspects she's too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

She shares her house with too many cats, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.

Adulting 101 by Lisa Henry

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed reading this book. The leads are in totally different places in their lives. It’s a coming of age story for Nick and kind of a reevaluation of some things for Jai. I love how it manages to be a M/M romance without the focus being on their sexual orientation, acceptance of it and such. I think this is a story that’s relatable to many. Nick has grown up privileged. He knows it. But now that he’s an adult, he doesn’t feel equipped to handle life even though he really doesn’t have an excuse. Adulting is hard. I totally agree.

The Beautiful Dead Trilogy Box Set by Daryl Banner

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Beautiful Dead is one of my all time favorites. I can't say enough how highly I recommend it. It's YA fantasy, post-apocalyptic and great for male and female ages tween to adult.

I never had any idea what would happen next. If I had 100 guesses to figure out where the plot was headed, in most parts of the story, I would have still gotten it wrong.

This series is entertaining and philosophical at the same time. There are many life-lessons inside its the-adventure-never-stops words.

From all of the varying emotions, I probably looked like someone missing their meds while reading. I was smirking at the smart dark comedy, laughing out loud at the true humor, having creepy cringes, tearing up, wowing in silence, etc.

It's very imaginative and original with plenty of action. There are undead, giant spiders, magical rocks and loads more attention-grabbers. The plot is very steady, no falling off, no getting stagnate. Every character is on a mission.

Matters of the heart are also a part. Friendship, familial love and romance all play roles in the overall storyline. These characters have been through a lot with each other in life and death. It's very touching and tearful. Prepare yourself for some major feels before you get to the end.

The preview of what’s to come really has me spinning with so many questions. Of course, I have no hope of working out how the author is going to blow my mind next, but I’ll be waiting on the edge of my seat for it.

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an amazing inside look at the struggles of being gay in the past and present. The narrator is the collective voice of the gay generation during the AIDS epidemic. The storyline follows a cast of several gay teens in different walks of life during the age of the internet.

I don't know what it says about me. Maybe I'm not as knowledgable as I thought I was. I consider myself to be a supporter, but I've never thought about things from some of the angles which this book gave me. It was really eye opening. I can see how helpful it would be for a gay teen having a hard time and beneficial to their families. Really, I think it is required reading for everyone.

Two Boys Kissing takes everything to a personal level. The author really puts the reader inside the minds of the characters. It made me feel sad and hopeful at the same time. Remarkable writing. Thank you to the author for giving me a life lesson. This is a book that will stay with me.

Sleepless by Michael Omer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is different from my norm. It is a YA, paranormal, murder mystery, psychological thriller, light horror, junior sleuth mix, and it kept my interest the entire time.

Amy is teen girl so several of the personal bits revolve around things important to teens. I found her to be relatable, likable and believable with a great dry sense of humor. She just moved to a new weird town so the reader follows with her through the learning and adapting. Mean girls and other school issues are somewhat present.

The beginning is getting to know Amy and the setting. After it, odd things start happening. Amy is trying to get to the bottom of these strange occurrences. I really enjoyed the journey. Those that regularly read scary horror novels may find it juvenile, and those that only read romance, adventure or children's fiction may find it frightening. As an adult, I think the story is very entertaining, but I feel it works best for an underage audience. Sleepless is the first of a series, and I plan to continue it.

4.5 stars
